Ein "Spiel" von TST !!! ??? !!!

Ja... Unglaublich aber wahr. Nicht ein "Tool" wie bisher, doch zur Adventszeit moechten wir auch mal etwas "anderes" vorstellen.
Doch als Ausnahme, wohlbemerkt. Unser Job sind und bleiben die Software-Tools.

Das Spiel heisst "CEI", was fuer "Clerk - Entrepreneur - Investor" steht, auf Deutsch: "Angestellter - Unternehmer - Anleger". Das Ziel des Spiels ist ganz einfach: So viel Geld wie moeglich machen.

Das Spiel ist noch nicht in der Mehrsprachfaehige Version fertig, laeuft nur auf Deutsch, zurzeit. Es ist also als "Arbeitsversion" zu verstehen und zu benutzen. Fehler duerften enthalten sein: es ist noch nicht unseren ueblichen strengen Qualitaetskontrollen durchgelaufen.

Doch Spass am Spiel duerfte man dennoch haben :-)

We at Tsubame produced a little piece of software again as freeware.
This time there are some functions to counting times.
The need for such software is derived from the need, for example, to measure the running time of programs and processes. One can also identify periods between keystrokes or to determine the time of "laps"; very interesting when you do training to play sport recording the time of each lap, and it is possible to take breaks at any time and the breaks will be particularly recorded.
The program is called "Osamu": The Japanese name "Osamu" means nearly: the ruler
Here the "Help" as a guide.

HELP: "Osamu" offers 5 time functions:
1: Measure the time just between 2 key strokes.
(Default: no parameters needed).
2: Running time of a program.
Osamu runtime: > Osamu p "programname" | > Osamu -p "programname" |
> Osamu --program "programname"
3: Measure the time between 2 key strokes repeatedly:
End of measure repetitions with ESC. Maximum 100 repetitions
It is possible to save the times in a text file.
Osamu Repetition: > Osamu r | > Osamu -r | > Osamu --repeat
4: Measure of a lap times (e.g. for sport purposes).
End of lap serie with ESC. Maximum 100 laps
It is possible to save the times in a text file.
Osamu Lap: > Osamu l | > Osamu -l | > Osamu --lap
5: Count-Down function.
Osamu Count-Down: > Osamu c "time_in_sec" | > Osamu -c "time_in_sec" |
> Osamu --countdown "time_in_sec"
NOTE 1: With "s", "-s" or "--silent" as a parameter you do not get some prints on the screen.
NOTE 2: With "d", "-d" or "--deutsch" as a parameter you get the german language.

Neue Freeware von Tsubame Software Tools

Wir bei Tsubame haben wieder ein kleines Stück Software als Freeware produziert.
Diesmal handelt es sich um einige Funktionen zum zählen von Zeiten.
Der Bedarf an solche Software ergibt sich aus der Notwendigkeit zum Beispiel die Laufzeit von Programmen bzw. Prozessen zu messen. Auch kann man Zeiten über Tastendrücke ermitteln oder auch die Zeit von "Runden" interessant wenn man Sport treibt um die Zeiten der einzelnen Runden zu ermitteln, wobei es ist möglich bei Pausen auszusetzen und diese zeit wird besonders aufgezeichnet.
Das Programm heisst "Osamu": Der japanische Name "Osamu" bedeutet so viel wie: Der Steuerer
Hier die "Hilfe" als Anleitung.

HILFE: "Osamu" stellt 5 Funktionen zur Verfügung:
1: Einfache Zeitmessung zwischen 2 Tastendruecke.
(Default: Aufruf ohne Parameter).
2: Programmablaufzeit.
Osamu Laufzeit: > Osamu p "Programmname" | > Osamu -p "Programmname" |
> Osamu --program "Programmname"
3: Wiederholte Zeitmessung zwischen zwei Tastendrücken.
Beenden der Messungen mit ESC. Max. 100 Wiederholungen
Es ist möglich, die Zeiten in einer Textdatei zu speichern.
Osamu Wiederholung: > Osamu r | > Osamu -r | > Osamu --repeat
4: Zeitmessung von Runden (z. B. zu Sportzwecken).

At the request of a client I have rapidly written a HTML to TEXT converter.
The software was written in Java, so is running under all known operating systems.
There is only one class and very simple, e.g. titles sized 1 will be underline with "#", the titles sized 2 with "*", the titles sized 3 with "~" and the titles sized 4 with "-".
It is processing only text, not links, with other words the tool only outputs text which is not within "tags".
The tool is right now a free tool (freeware) ready to download for anyone.

Auf Wunsch eines Kunden habe ich schnell ein "Html zu Text" Konverter geschrieben.
Das Stueck ist in Java geschrieben worden, also unter allen bekannte Betriebssystemen einsetzbar.
Es ist nur eine Klasse und sehr einfach, es werden z.B. Titel der Groesse 1 mit "#" unterstrichen, die Titel der Groesse 2 mit "*", die Titel der Groesse 3 mit "~" und die Titel der Groesse 4 mit "-".
Es wird nur Text ausgegeben, keine Links, m.a.W. nur das ausgegeben, was nicht innerhalb "Tags" steht.
Das Tool stelle ich jetzt als freies Tool (freeware) fuer Alle zum Downloaden bereit.

Modularization of Naoko

Due to the many questions I received concerning Naoko:
Yes, Naoko should be separated into 3 modules, which you can order separately and of course use independently from each.
For that independence are all data interfaces open, data are stored in ASCII format and in standard CSV (Comma Delimited Data), readable by any program (eg a spreadsheet program)
The modules are:
1. Naoko Account: Accounting module, the heart of the system
2. Naoko Cash: POS program for use at each cashier
3. Naoko Salary: Module for the calculation of salaries

Ja, Naoko soll sich in 3 Module trennen, die auch separat zu beziehen sind und natuerlich unabhaengig voneinander lauffaehig sind.

Ja, Naoko wird auch ein Gehalt-Modul bekommen.
Dieses Modul wird unabhaengig von Naoko selbst als Buchhaltung lauffaehig sein. Die Daten kann man exportieren zu anderen Applikationen als Datei mit Komma getrennte Felder (als ASCII Datei).
Die Module von Naoko werden im Laufe der ersten 5 Monaten des Jahres 2011 fertig gestellt werden.

Yes, Naoko will get an independient modul for Salaries.
This Salary Modul will be independient from Naoko as accounting system itself. The data can be exported to other systems as file with comma delimited fields (as ASCII data).
The moduls will be ready within the first 5 months of 2011.

"Advent" - The year going to his end, time to think about it

A very eventful year is soon ending, faster than we believe, and it is time to briefly review what happened, what should happen and what would not have happened.

First, I want to apologize to all for the fact that I did not, as I have in my mind, have written on a regular basis here.

Following briefly about the development of the company (for some possibly interesting):
1. Cooperation with an e-Learning company has intensified and from here a new company was born: Tsubame Solutions for Teaching
2. From my old NKE company emerged a new; Tsubame Systems Technology.
Tsubame Systems Technology is indeed focused on a part of what NKE made, but it was at klast important for me, to share with the market the cumulated experience of NKE over the years.

And as second I inform about the status of the projects from Tsubame Software Tools.

Please remember that we are a small company and have structurally many "irons in the fire." May be too much, but it seems that things are moving forward.

A) News
1. DMS (and WMS) Toshiko: Ready. Functionality to be expanded. Some bugs are still to be found. The entire quality control / testing process may be repeated once more
2. Chikako KM: In development: project planning phase
3. PDM Kumiko: System has been completed for a customer, but adapted to this customer. For the general marketing, the system should be generalized
4. Naoko accounting system: In development: I reckon with a first GA for the end of December (rather january 2011)
5. Tool for organizing double and old files Kenji: Done. 2 functions to be added. Buyer (actual customers) of the tool will automatically receive the next version.
6. Invoice generating program Yasuhiro: first functioning version is created, it must still go through the quality control / testing process and it should be completed to be more beauty (logo, etc.)

B) Development planned
1. CRM Atsuko
2. Tool for synchronizing directories: Arata
3. Tool for finding documents: Yuudai
4. Tool for Back Ups: Nobuo
5. Tool for processing of Home Pages (a simple "Content Management System", CMS): Daiki

So far so good.

Adventszeit - Das Jahr geht zu Ende, Zeit der Besinnung

Ein sehr bewegtes Jahr wird bald, schneller als man denkt, zu ende gehen und es ist an der Zeit, kurz zu bewerten was passiert ist, was haette passieren sollen und was nicht haette passieren sollen.

Zunaechst will ich mich bei allen dafuer entschuldigen, dass ich nicht, wie ich es mir vorgenommen habe, regelmaessig hier geschrieben habe.

Doch zur Entwicklung der Firmen (fuer einige moeglicherweise interessant):
1. Zusammenarbeit mit einer e-Learniung Firma wurde intensiviert und daraus ist eine neue Firma entstanden: Tsubame Solutions for Teaching
2. Aus meinem alten Unternehmen NKE ist eine neue entstanden, Tsubame Systems Technology. Tsubame Systems Technology ist zwar spezialisiert auf einem Teilbereich von dem, was NKE gemacht hat, aber es war fuer mich wichtig, den Markt das Beste der gesammelten Erfahrung der NKE wieder zur Verfuegung zu stellen.

Und zum 2. der Stand der Projekte bei Tsubame Software Tools.

Bitte denke Sie daran, dass wir eine kleine Firma sind und haben strukturbedingt viele "Eisen im Feuer". Vielleich zu viele, aber es scheint doch, dass es vorwaerts geht.

A) Aktuell
1. DMS (und WMS) Toshiko: Einsatzbereit. Funktionalitaet soll erweitert werden. Einige Bugs sind noch zu finden. Der gesamte Qualitaetskontrolle/Tests Prozess soll noch einmal durchlaufen.
2. KM Chikako: In Entwicklung: Projektplanungsphase
3. PDM Kumiko: System wurde fuer ein Kunde fertiggestellt, ist aber an diesem Kunde angepasst. Fuer die allgemeine Vermarktung sollte das System noch verallgemeinert werden.
4. Buchhaltungssystem Naoko: In Entwicklung, fuer Ende Dezember rechen ich mit der ersten lauffaehigen Version.
5. Tool zum Organisieren von doppelten und alten Dateien Kenji: Fertig. 2 Funktionen sollen hinzugefuegt werden. Kaeufer (aktuelle Kunden) des Tools bekommen automatisch die naechsten Versionen.
6. Rechnungs-Erstellungs-Programm Yasuhiro: Erste funktionsfaehige Version erstellt, es muss noch den Qualitaetskontrolle/Tests Prozess durchlaufen und es sind noch Schoenheitspunkte zu aendern (Logo u.a.)

B) Geplante Projekte

Separate documents by age with the help of Kenji / Trennen von Dokumenten nach Alter mit Hilfe von Kenji

Separate documents by age with the help of Kenji

A task that you can very easily do with Kenji is the separation of documents in whole directory trees (folder structures) by age: Kenji jumps automaically in subdirectories (subfolders) and works on the found documents.

With an example I can explain best how to do this.

Let's say you have 100,000 documents from the past years and you want to separate them by years; documents from this year, from the last, from 2 years ago, ..., 9 years old, older than 10 years.
How to proceed:
1st. Prepare 10 directories (folders) for the respective years ("year 2001", "year 2002," ..., "year 2009", "year 2010"). New -> Folder -> -> OK
2nd. Start Kenji and choose "Old Files" -> "Move". As startup folder type the folder with the 100,000 documents, as destination folder the oldest of the folder you created (in our example "year 2001"). Choose the option "Keep directory structure". And now just enter "10 years" for the age of the documents you want to move. That is very simple.
3rd. Start Kenji.
4th. Repeat the second and the third steps now 9 times for the next years, from the older to the newer years. You only need to change the target folder and the ageof the documents.

Tip: For large amount of documents the program Kenji can take a long time. Here it is appropriate to run Kenji in batch mode:
1st. Create a configuration file for the documents older than 10 years
2nd. Copy this configuration file nine times and edit the config files matching the target folder and the age of the documents in the 9 copied configuration files
3rd. Just start Kenji in the evening and let it run overnight. Please remember to write the configuration files as parameter after Kenji in the command line; the oldest first, the newer last. That's all!

Note: Be always careful when doing big changes with your documents: Before running Kenji, please do a backup copy of your data.

Trennen von Dokumenten nach Alter mit Hilfe von Kenji

Eine Aufgabe die Sie sehr einfach mit Kenji erledigen koennen ist das Trennen von Dokumenten in ganzen Verzeichnisbaeumen (Ordnerstrukturen) nach Alter: Kenji springt selbststaendig in Unterverzeichnissen (Unterordner) und bearbeitet die vorgefundenen Dokumenten.

Mit einem Beispiel lasst sich am Besten erklaeren wie das zu bewerkstelligen ist.

Nehmen wir an, sie haben 100.000 Dokumenten aus den letzten Jahren und Sie wollen diese nach Jahrgang trennen; Dokumente aus diesem Jahr, aus dem letzten, aus dem vorletzten, ..., 9 Jahre alt, aelter als 10 Jahren.
So gehen Sie vor:
1. Bereiten Sie 10 Verzeichnissen (Ordner) fuer die jeweiligen Jahren ("Jahr 2001", "Jahr 2002", ..., "Jahr 2009", "Jahr 2010") vor. Neu -> Ordner -> -> OK
2. Starten Sie Kenji und waehlen Sie "Alte Dateien" -> "Bewegen". Als Startordner geben Sie den Ordner wo sich die 100.000 Dokumente befinden, als Zielordner das aelteste der von Ihnen angelegten Ordner (in unserem Beispiel "Jahr 2001"). Waehlen Sie die Option "Verzeichnisstruktur beibehalten". Und nun als Aelter der Dokumente geben Sie "10 Jahre", ganz einfach.
3. Starten Sie Kenji.
4. Wiederholen Sie die Schritte 2. und 3. nun 9 Male fuer die naechsten Jahren, von den aelteren zu den neueren Jahren. Dabei muessen Sie nur das Zielordner und das Alter der Dokumenten aendern/anpassen.

Tip: Bei grossen Datenbestaenden kann das Laufen des Programms eine betraechtliche Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Hier empfiehlt es sich geradezu Kenji in Batchmodus laufen zu lassen:
1. Erstellen Sie eine Konfigurationsdatei fuer die Dokumenten aelter als 10 Jahren
2. Kopieren Sie diese Konfigurationsdatei noch 9 Male, passen Sie das Zielordner und das Alter in den 9 kopierten Konfigurationsdateien
3. Starten Sie einfach Kenji abends und lassen Sie es ueber Nacht laufen. Denken Sie daran, die Konfigurationsdateien als Parameter nach Alter mit zu uebergeben. Fertig

Anmerkung: Seien Sie immer mit Dokumentenbewegungen vorsichtig und erstellen Sie, bevor Sie Kenji laufen lassen, eine Sicherungskopie Ihrer Daten.

Kenji - Organizing documents - Der Dokument Organizator

Based on the old good know-how of Tsubame a new tool was born: Kenji.
This tool helps to reduce the amount of documents and/or to organize the existing documents, simply by one of three main functions, as follows:

1st. Search and find duplicate documents, they may be either listed (for further processing), moved to a back up folder or simply deleted, as desired.

2nd. Search and find old documents, the documents found may be either moved to a back up folder, or deleted, as you want, and

3rd. Search and find very old documents, the retrieved documents are then just deleted.

It is of course also possible to choose only one or two of the main functions, and you can save the configuration for future use.
A very useful service of Kenji is also the possibility to let the tool run automatically (in batch mode), Kenji will run then a batch of configuration files one after the other, saving lots of work.

Basierend auf dem altbewaehrten Know-How von Tsubame ist ein neues Pogramm entstanden: Kenji.
Dieses Tool hilft die Dokumentenmenge zu reduzieren und/oder die vorhandenen Dokumenten zu organisieren, ganz einfach durch drei verschiedene Hauptfunktionen, wie folgt:

Basics about "Cloud Computing"

"Cloud computing" is a 'hype'. A marketing term. But not an empty shell; it will cost the 'user' a lot of money.
It is (and was) already a great achievement to sell a 'license' to an user for using a software. Please note: The seller have not sold him the 'program', but the 'rights to use it'!
With "Cloud Computing" is going the software-as-money-machine sellers a significant step forward: they sell a foggy cloud.
Instead of a license it is a SLA (Service Level Agreement) regulating the deal.
Thus, the user is losing control (with the old fashioned 'license' he had, after all, just the piece of software on CD-ROM -a hardware- and was able however to decide where and how often he wanted - was allowed?- to install the program). The user now loses independence, he is only wanted to pay.
We at Tsubame Software Tools are convinced that the web is a wonderful, great invention. To communicate. To search for information and find it. To store and exchange informations.
But to start applications from the web and to run them on the own computers... that is not, and never was, the meaning of the 'net'.

What is the meaning of the "Cloud"? We believe that:

a) The user loses control over the own data: Without the software of the ASP (Application Service Provider) he can not open/read/use his files.

b) The user opens a big door to the own data: It is much easier to spy information out when the computers must always download "executables" from the web.

c) The virus multiplies in danger: Not just for virus programs, but viruses are now a reality for data (PDF) and that will soon be a major threat.

In short: "Cloud Computing" is a weak-minded idea. A perverse thing. That is the wrong way.

Grundsaetzliches zu "Cloud Computing"

"Cloud Computing" ist ein 'Hype'. Ein Marketing Begriff. Aber keine leere Huelse; das wird dem 'Benutzer' viel Geld kosten.
Es ist (und war) schon eine grosse Leistung dem 'Benutzer' eine 'Lizenz' fuer das Benutzen einer Software zu verkaufen. Wohlbemerkt: Man hat ihn nicht das 'Programm' verkauft, sondern die 'Rechte es zu benutzen'!
Mit "Cloud Computing" gehen die Software-Als-Geldmaschine-Verkaeufer einen wesentlichen Schritt weiter: Man verkauft eine Nebel-Wolke.
Anstatt der Lizenz tritt ein SLA (Service Level Agreement) in Kraft.
Damit verliert der Benutzer die Kontrolle (die, die er mit der 'Lizenz' immerhin hatte: ueber das Stueck Software als CD-ROM -etwas Hardware- und darueber wo und wie oft er das Programm installieren wollte -durfte?-). Der Benutzer wird jetzt unmuendiger, nur bezahlen darf er.
Wir bei Tsubame Software Tools sind ueberzeugt, dass das Internet eine wunderbare, grossartige Erfindung ist. Zum Kommunizieren. Um Informationen zu suchen und zu finden, zu speichern und zu tauschen.
Doch Applikationen aus dem Internet zu starten und sie auf die eigenen Rechnern laufen zu lassen... das ist nicht, und war nie, der Sinn des 'Netzes'.

Was bedeutet nun die "Wolke" fuer den Anwender? Wir meinen folgendes:

a) Der Benutzer verliert die Kontrolle ueber seine Daten: Ohne die Software des Anbieters (ASP: Application Service Provider) kann er die eigenen Daten nicht mehr oeffnen/lesen/verwerten.

b) Der Benutzer oeffnet Tuer und Tor zu den eigenen Daten: Es wird viel einfacher sein Informationen auszuspionieren wenn die Computer stets "Ausfuehrbare" aus dem Netz runterladen muessen.

c) Die Virengefahr potenziert sich: Nicht nur Viren fuer Programme, sondern Viren fuer Daten sind heute eine Realitaet (PDF) und werden bald eine starke Bedrohung.

Kurzum: "Cloud Computing" ist eine schwachsinnige Idee. Ein abartiges Ding. Das ist der falsche Weg.

Why do we write our software in C or Pascal?

Many people ask themselves (and us) why do we write our programs in C or Pascal, and not in other languages such as Java or C# (C sharp) or even in C++.
Well, the decision for C/Pascal has been made for more than just one reason.
To make it short, I'm just writting to the reasons for C/Pascal and the reasons against Java/C#; the reasons against C/Pascal and for the Java/C# derive directly from the opposite of the first two.
Reasons for C / Pascal
1. We want our customers to have simple, fast software, languages like C/Pascal are simple, have a reduced instruction set, no overloading, no overwriting. Easy and fast. The user does not care whether the software is or has been developed object-oriented or using a specific IDE.

Reasons against Java/C#:
1. Ok, against C# speaks of course, that it is in the Windows world anchored so that it is immediately out, because our programs have to run in unix-like environments, so can we guarantee our customers that they can also use old, discarded, simple machines and thus can save money.
2. The problem with Java is, out of our experience, the platform (operating system) independence: Because the Java programs do run as byte code in a virtual machine, they are artificially slowed down. In addition, the gain in safety (e.g. garbage collection or the intrinsic safety of the Java language) is unfortunately gone away if you have an extra piece of software in between (because the VM), so the pogrammer often the loses "control" from what actually happened. And we will not give this "control" out our hand, not for our simple, fast programs. That would be against our software development philosophy.

Observe: We have nothing against Java, and we even like to write Java programs too, some of which could also be published as freeware, but we still think we shall not offer our customers commercial programs which are not performing as good as we wish.

Warum schreiben wir unsere Software in C oder Pascal?

Viele Kunden fragen sich (und uns) warum wir unsere Programme in C oder Pascal schreiben und nicht in anderen Sprachen wie Java oder C# (C sharp) oder gar in C++.
Nun, die Entscheidung ist aus mehrere Gruenden auf C/Pascal gefallen.
Um es kurz zu machen werde ich einfach die Gruende fuer C/Pascal und die Gruende gegen Java/C# schreiben, die Gruende gegen C/Pascal und die fuer Java/C# ergeben sich unmittelbar aus dem Gegenteil der ersten zwei.
Gruende fuer C/Pascal:
1. Wir wollen, dass unsere Kunden einfache, schnelle Software haben, Sprachen wie C/Pascal sind schlank, haben einen reduzierten Befehlssatz, keine Ueberladung, keine Ueberschreibung. Einfach schnell. Dem Benutzer ist es egal ob eine Software Objektorientiert ist oder mit bestimmte IDEs entwickelt worden ist.

Gruende gegen Java/C#:
1. OK, gegen C# spricht natuerlich, dass sie in der Windows-Welt verankert ist, damit scheidet sie sofort aus, da unsere Programme auch in Unix aehnliche Umgebungen laufen sollen, damit garantieren wir unseren Kunden, dass sie auch ausrangierte, einfache Rechner einsetzen und damit Geld sparen koennen.
2. Das Problem mit Java ist nach unserer Erfahrung die Plattformunabhaengigkeit: Dadurch dass die Java Programme als Byte-Kode in einer virtuellen Maschine laufen sollen, wird die Software kuenstlich verlangsamt. Darueber hinaus ist der Gewinn an Sicherheit (Garbage Collection z.B. oder die intrinsische Sicherheit der Sprache Java) leider wieder teils weg wenn man ein zusaetzliches Stueck Software dazwischen hat (die VM) da man oft die "Kontrolle" verliert von dem, was eigentlich passiert. Und diese "Kontrolle" wollen wir nicht aus der Hand geben; nicht bei unseren schlanken, schnellen Programmen. Das ginge gegen unsere Software-Entwicklungs-Philosophie.

Wohlbemerkt: Wir haben nichts gegen Java, selbst benutzen und schreiben wir Java Programme, einige davon koennten auch als Freeware veroeffentlich werden, wir denken dennoch, dass wir unseren Kunden nicht langsam laufende Programme anbieten duerfen.

Customer Centric Business

It happens sometimes that I have time enough to read some articles on the Internet.
And so happened recently that I read an article and though (at the beginning) that it should be very interesting. And in the end I got the impression that there were just many, many words covering a rather empty shell, it was such a bubble that will soon imploded into its own emptiness, and nothing -null- remains.
So I recently read about "customer-centric business". Sounds important, right?
But it is, IMHO, one more from the many Maketing self-imploding bubbles without content, the only reason for its existence is that someone reads it and thinks the author have something very important to say.
What's that, "customer-centeric-business"?
Should the "centered" customer be the "center" of the own business?
There was a beautiful story of a grandfather, grandson and a donkey. They are on the road and change the own position in accordance to the comments of the people. At the end both, grandfather and grandson recognize that foreign opinions do not match the own reality.
The same, I believe, will happens if a company is directed by the comments of customers.
In my opinion, a company should concentrate on the own product. On quality and performance. Everything else is nonsense.

Es kommt schon vor, dass ich Zeit habe im Internet nach Informationen zu suchen.
Und nun passiert mir auch, dass ich ein Artikel lese und dachte (am Anfang) dass es sehr interessant sein soll. Und am Ende hatte ich doch den Eindruck, dass es nur viele, viele Woerter waren die eine ziemlich leere Huelle verbergen, sozusagen eine Seifenblase, die bald in die eigene Leere implodiert und nichts -nix- bleibt uebrig.
So habe ich vor Kurzem ueber "customer-centric-business" gelesen. Klingt wichtig, nicht wahr?
Ist aber eine mehr von den vielen Maketing selbst-implodierenden Seifenblasen ohne Inhalt die nur eine Existenzberechtigung darin finden sollen, dass jemand sie liest und glaubt, der Author haette etwas sehr wichtiges mitzuteilen.
Was ist denn das, "Kunden-Zentriertes-Geschaeft" ?
Soll man den "zentrierten" Kunden Puderzucker in den Power Point Praesentationen blasen?
Da gab es eine schoene Geschichte von einem Opa, der Enkel und ein Esel. Unterwegs sind sie und passen sich gemaess den Kommentaren von Passanten. Am Ende erkennen beide, Opa und Enkel, dass fremde Meinungen an der Realitaet vorbeigehen.
Das gleiche, schaetze ich, passiert wenn sich eine Firma an den Kommentaren der Kunden richtet.
Meiner Meinung nach soll sich ein Unternehmen auf das eigene Produkt konzentrieren. Auf Qualitaet und Leistung. Alles andere ist Quatsch.

A kind of disadvantage of Open Source Software / Eine Art Nachteil der Open Source Software

As promised, I am writing today about a disadvantage of the OSS (open source software).
It is probably not a serious disadvantage but rather a consequence arising from the fact that the developer(s) is/are not directly interested in the "sale" of the SW.
And this disadvantage applies mainly to large, complex systems, such as BI (business intelligence) systems happens to be: CRM, CMS, ERP etc.
The matter is that the developer himself is a 'geek', he is more interested in doing the right working SW, he does not expect the software to look nice or being very easy to operate.
A nice side effect of this approach is also that he (the developer) or others (geeks) can make money (and sometimes they must earn money) working as consultants, SW configurators or project staff for the written SW.
Surely not a great disadvantage for medium and large business, but for small businesses it could be a kind of more or less serious problem.

About comments on this subject we would be very glad!

Wie versprochen schreibe ich jetzt ueber ein Nachteil der OSS (Open Source Software).
Es ist wohl kein gravierender Nachteil sondern eher eine Konsequenz aus der Tatsache entsprungen, dass der/die Entwickler nicht direkt interessiert is am "Verkauf" der SW.
Und dieser Nachteil trifft in erster Linie doch grosse, komplexe Systeme wie die BI (Business Intelligence) Systeme nun einmal sind: CRM, CMS, ERP u.a.
Die Sache ist die, dass der Entwickler selbst ein 'geek' ist; er ist eher daran interessiert, dass die SW funktioniert, nicht dass sie schoen aussieht oder besonders einfach zu bedienen ist.
Ein netter Nebeneffekt dieser Vorgehensweise ist ausserdem doch auch, dass er oder andere Geld verdienen koennen (und manchmal sogar sollen) indem sie als Berater, SW-Anpasser oder Projekt-Mitarbeiter fuer die geschriebene SW beauftragt werden.
Kein grosser Nachteil fuerwahr fuer mittlere und grosse Unternehmer, doch fuer eher kleine Betriebe kann sich das nachteiliger auswirken als fuer etwas groessere.

An important advantage of the Open Source Software / Ein wichtiger Vorteil der Open Source Software

Despite all asseverations of the (paid) software industry, I personally believe (and we are writing commercial software) that the open source software (OSS) are far more trustworthy than commercial applications.
Do you ask "why"?
Well, a commercial software program, application, what ever companies are producing to make money, that is really bounded strong to economic principles.
For instance, if the company NK Electronics calculates that it will earn more money with the development (or distribution!) of SW for lawyers, well, this company will imediatly stops the development of the old software (since, after all, the "survival" of the Company hangs solely and alone of money), e.g. a data analysis software (just a niche market, about the competition here I will not write anything) and change to the new market. Existing customers will be maintained as long as they also brings in enough money.
And quite simply, just therefore, I consider the Open Sorce Software as often the better alternative.
Tsubame developes software with passion. Perhaps we are an exception; however, should be stop the developing for whatever reason, so we will make the source code public.
About a disadvantage of this model (OS) I'm going to write next week.

Trotz alle Beteuerung der (bezahlte) Software-Industrie halte ich persoenlich (und wir schreiben nun mal kommerzielle Software) doch die Open Source Software (OSS) fuer bei Weitem vertrauenswuerdiger als kommerzielle Anwendungen.
Warum fragen Sie mich?
Nun, eine kommerzielle Software, Programm, Anwendung, was Firmen alles produzieren um Geld zu verdienen, ist aber leider stark an wirtschaftlichen Prinzipien gebunden.

Wenn zum Beispiel die Firma NK Electronics berechnet, dass sie mehr Geld mit der Entwicklung (oder Vertrieb!) von SW fuer Anwaelte erwirtschaftet, so wird sie sofort (denn am Ende haengt doch das "Ueberleben" der Firma einzig und alleine an deren Einnahmen) die Entwicklung einstellen von der alten SW fuer, sagen wir mal, Messdatenanalyse (doch ein Nischenmarkt, ueber den Konkurrenzkampf hier will ich mich gar nicht aeussern) und sich den neuen Markt widmen. Die vorhandenen Kunden werden so lange betreut wie das auch vernuenftig Geld einbringt.
Und ganz einfach aus diesem Grunde betrachte ich die Open Sorce Software als oft die bessere Alternative.
Tsubame erstellt SW aus Leidenschaft fuer die Entwicklung. Vielleicht sind wir eine Ausnahme, jedenfalls, sollte aus welchem Grunde auch immer die Entwicklung eingestellt, so werden wir den Quellcode oeffentlich machen.
Ueber ein Nachteil dieses Modell (OS) werde ich mich naechste Woche aeussern.

What are the functions of a CRM / KM / PLM / etc?

What many authors describe as the "functionality" of a (CRM, KM, PLM, ...), system, reads much more as a list of wishes of what these authors like to have in such a system, but very often are these wishes, compared with what a system actually performs, far away of the reality.

In addition you can read the same "functions" repeated again and again for all the different "systems" and "managers". Funy wishes.

But: What do yu want, YOU, the owner of a small or medium sized enterprise?

tatsaechlich leisten soll/sollte, nur ganz am Rande etwas zu tun.

A decision system has great impact on the profits of the company.
It forces the management to rationalize the depreciation, inventory and inflation policies. It warns the management against impending crises and problems in the company.
It specially helps in following areas:

a. The management knows exactly how much credit it could take, for how long (for which maturities) and in which interest rate. It has been proven that without proper feedback, managers tend to take too much credit and burden the cash flow of their companies.

b. A decision system allows for careful financial planning and tax planning. Profits go up, non cash outlays are controlled, tax liabilities are minimized and cash flows are maintained positive throughout.

c. As a result of all the above effects the value of the company grows and its shares appreciate.

The decision system is an integral part of financial management in the West. It is completely compatible with western accounting methods and derives all the data that it needs from information extant in the company.

So, the establishment of a decision system does not hinder the functioning of the company in any way and does not interfere with the authority and functioning of the financial department.

The functions of a "Business Tool"

I was studying for a while about the functions a BI (Business-Intelligence) Software may offer.

Very interesting are of course the descriptions on Wikipedia, for the first they are quite complete and objectively correct and for the second it is rather simple to do a qualitative research from these sites.

But, reading all this information about the diferent systems (CRM, KM, PLM, DMS -Toshiko-, and so on) I had the impression that these description correspond rather to the wishes of the different authors than to the functions which actually offers the software you can get for BI.

On the other hand it is also oft the matter that different BI software types, if it may be believed after the founded descriptions, must ofer same functions (what is obviously foolish). Therefore it is clear that the texts what we can read are not more than the wishes of the authors and what they believe it will be nice to have in ONE piece of software, BUT, if we are trying to define what exactly may a BI-SW (rather a BI System with different and complemetary sofware modules/components) correctly do, so it is clear that one must define separated and for each particular pupose, what is to be wanted from a given software system.

KISS

Kiss means "keep it short and simple".

In the last times I saw several times this acronym as "keep it simple, stupid".
I do not think that is a good interpretation of the acronym:
1. That is too aggresiv and therefore is really meaning the opposite of what the acronym should mean, and
2. do not match the original meaning of simple AND short, both are important.

But I believe some people write about "kiss" and actually do not know what that means, and may be also do not understand the philosophy of the idea back this.

I was all time convinced of the advantages of doing so. That is for this reason I started with Tsubame Software Tools: For develope agile systems, independient systems, smart systems.
I believe that is the spirit of the "kiss"-idea; not using the word "stupid" but the word "smart":

Keep it short and simple, be smart! (kiss, bs) :-)

SME must not afford long project time: just use standard software

I readed:

"Experience shows that the time and resources needed for the deployment
of the system in a company can vary from several months to several
years. Naturally, the time varies depending on the size of the company, the
approach taken to the project, and the chosen system (for example a standard
software package vs. tailoring)."

If so, a SME (small and medium sized enterprise) CANNOT afford the expenses of implementing such a software system.

I think for my self, that just in small business there are big needs of using simple software, even in small business are long amounts of processes rather standard.

Therefore offers Tsubame Software Tools software solutions especially for SME.

I read an article about cloud computing which postules that cloud computing is much more than cheap computing.
Reasons are:

1. Is more efficient: Organizations have not to pay for operating the system
2. Is more agile: Maximizes ROI through rapid time to market a.o.

Anyway they were not mencioning the cons of "cloud computing":

1. You depend of
1.1. The company providing the system (software++) you use
1.2. A working internet
2. You do not own the software you need to drive your business.
3. Your data is going out of your business into the internet losing security and privacy. ALL going through cables out of the walls of your company is able to be hijacked.
4. With all data traveling through the cable the work takes more time, not much more but all the time.

As I try to show with Tsubame Software Tools they are some "cons" you not need to have. With Tsubame you have the same "pros" as with "cloud computing" but only 1/2 of the "cons".

SaaS or Web Software for Enterprises

Hi !

I was looking on some web based business sites
(Software as a Service)
where you pay only for the use of the software and you have no work with the HW and SW itself.
May be from the TCO side, for costs and ROI, is that a good idea,
but,
I testing such applications, as user, I repeat: as user
and got the impression that I have to wait may be a little bit to long each time I get a new site (and that happens often!). In my eyes this is an invitation to muda, what is japanese and means wasteful.

Hello and welcome back here!

one program for mathematics, runing on a dos-box (dos terminal ;-)
I wrote that back in the year 1993-1994 and I had no changes so far all the time
only in december 2008 I translate the program to the 4 languages
german, norwegian, spanish and english.

I remember my first job as programmer, that was in the year 1993 for the Germanischer Lloyd. The program calculates short circuit currents for ships according to DIN Norms.
That was a very interesting job and then I discovered also my... yes, passion for programming!

Software development has always a kind of inflation:

More functions
More posibilities
More colors
More memory

Newer versions of a software is allways more complicated, not easier.
I think that is not in all cases the right principle.
I am rather convinced that the right principle of development is to do as much as possible automatic and all the user have to do must be intuitive.

I can imagine docens of "have not to..." but only fews "have to.." over what that is supposed to do, of course.

I recommend to read "Getting real". I enjoyed this book a lot :-)
